Post 51: Final ancillary Task 1

FINAL ANCILLARY TASK ONE

Front and Back cover

These are the final outcomes for our digipak. The front cover shows a photograph of the two girls standing on a bridge that was a key scene of our music video. We have decided to keep the front cover quite simple and as our chosen song 'I'll try anything Once' is actually a demo on a b-side, we have chosen to create the digipak as if it were part of an album. We thought about giving the cover a more interesting feature by adding a transparent border around the edges which would have appear throughout the ancillary tasks, but we decided that it would overpower the imagery so we kept it very simple instead. The back cover is a photograph of the trees within the image of the two girls. We then added another image showing the river that is flowing below them to overlay, creating a light textured colour, reflecting an accurate tone for our music video. I changed the opacity within this image so you could then see the image of the trees underneath, so it looks like its reflecting.  We have also used the same font for the titles on our digipak, the video poster and the music video. This is because we want to keep our merchandise consistent so when people see it, they can instantly recognise, in any of the formats, that its that song.

CD
This is what we imagine the CD to look like if it was to be taken out of the album panel. The chosen image works very well for this as the trees reflect both the front and back cover, making it link and keeping it consistent. We thought about adding another stream photo instead, showing the white water flowing but when we tried it, it didn't seem as fitting with the style we want/is in our music video.

None of the digipak panels show the artist himself which is a conscious decision we made. Even though most bands show their faces to not only sell the music but the image and name of the artist. One of the reasons why The Strokes didn't fit this approach is that none of their album covers show them as artists but either use a piece of art work or other people. Another reason is that the alternative music genre of their music and the song we chose focuses more on the art behind the music. The song doesn't aim to sell copies because of the popularity of the band, but because of the music itself.

Inside covers

This is the inside cover of the album. the panels that appear when the album is opened. The left side shows a photograph of one of the main characters at the petrol station. This photograph was taken whilst we were filming on day 3 and is collectively, our favourite shot in the whole music video. It is rather simple, however, we believe that it works very well with our theme as the light sets the tone of our music video. To match the colour scheme and aesthetics, I thought we should add a plain yellow background to match the yellow number 4 sign and have the CD disk on top to make it stand out even more. We think that an element of a poster, digipak or music video (anyway really, to sell music) needs to stand out.
