Post 28: PLANNING: Cast and Characters

CAST AND CHARACTERS

In our planning for cast and characters which we will be using in our media coursework we have narrowed it down to using Amelia (me) Daisy who are twin sisters in real life and in the music video which we will filming. We thought it would be a good idea to use real sisters rather than pretending to act that people are sisters so that the acting looks genuine and real rather than faking it.

The characters that they will be playing is as similar to their normal life as possible. That they have a strong sisterly connection and are showing that through the filming techniques that we use. The setting that we are using will help bring out their true characteristics because we want to make out that the beach and house that we are going to film in was a part of the sisters childhood and brings back silly memories etc.

 We took inspiration from the music video: SLEEP ON THE FLOOR - THE LUMINEERS. 

What we liked about this video is how the characters have such an intense relationship. You can clearly identify this through the opening scene where the emotions are fully produced in the expressions of their faces. You can tell that their feelings are so strong romantically and they have a very powerful, strong bond between each other. I feel that this is showed successfully by the use of slow motion filming techniques also. As the video goes on you can see their intimate relationship because they are very close in a lot of the scenes. I feel as though the lighting of the sunset helps to pursue that image of them feeling very warm towards each other. This could be a good thing to include in our music video between the two sisters and their relationship being very close. I also think it is quite creative how this couple are travelling the world or sightseeing, potentially seeing/ doing stuff that brings the two closer together. which is what we would like to show in the music video we create. 
Another video that's good inspiration for our music video: The Lumineers - Cleopatra

This is a great video which helps form a strong bond between two family members. I believe the characters in this video are mother and son. They have done a successful way of filming this because it shows that the mother cares and loves for her son, and they can still be silly and have fun together. This is a good way to show a family bond in our music video because obviously the characters we are using are sisters. In my opinions feel that a strong way of showing bonds and connections between characters in the facial expressions which are being pulled throughout the video. Obviously there is little dialogue if not non at all in a music video so it is a strong thing to show during a music video. I also feel that the facial expressions should Lin into the sound of the music which is being played.

Post 33: PLANNING: Editing

EDITING Our editing style, we know already, we plan to be slow and not heavily edited in port-production with long takes that can really take in the story, to fit the more sombre tone of the song, rather than be heavily edited with lots of cuts that can come out as jumpy and fast. We also want to focus on the sisters, so the cameras will often be rolling for a longer time on the sisters and their movement and not just just on and off for certain shots that are pieced together later to make the story. Below is an example of one longer shot that we could use, instead of lots of little ones, when shooting in the car moving from one sister across to the other: NARRATIVE: Above is a video I found on YouTube roughly describing what narrative is. It helped me understand the meaning of narrative and how it is used.  LINEAR NARRATIVE  -  Linear narratives  present stories in a logical manner by telling what happens from one point in time to the next without using flashbacks

Post 6: Key Music Videos Timeline

POST 6: PRACTICE TASK - KEY MUSIC VIDEOS TIMELINE    This research is to discover the key turning points in music videos in the last century leading up until now. Before we started, the only inclination we had was that Michael Jackson's Thriller music video was important and was a major turning point with creating a storyline with the music video so it was interesting for all of us to see where it originally came from and who influenced the creation of music videos all of the world.
