SETTING

Are you familiar with the term 'setting'?
I am familiar with the term setting and in my opinion, it means the place or type of surroundings where something is positioned or where an event takes place. So in our situation, the setting would be in a house near the beach. As that is where we are filming our music video.

What settings do you consider 'setting' using in your music video?
For our video we want to portray the present day, with a variety of shots in and out of a victorian beach house located in Lowestoft, Suffolk. The season will be winter as my group and I thought this time of year would compliment our ideas. This setting revolves around the idea that these sisters on a road trip, doing what they want, when they want, and spending time with each other. Therefore, we want to focus on little things that create the setting and atmosphere, like driving there in the car, symbolising the freedom to them but also creating that specific setting of them getting away. Other settings, like the bedroom, with a large double bed for them to share means cuddling and sharing that space, but also creating an intimate setting in which we see how close the are.

How will they create a mise-en-scene?

Mis-en-scene is the arrangement of the scenery, props, etc, on the stage of a theatrical production on the set of a film. It could also be the the settings or surroundings of an event. So in the music video, Lily, Daisy and I, are creating we would like to create a peaceful, calm scenery but with a little tone of adventure and a few differences to what the two sisters feel in their everyday life. Examples of props which we would use are things like, a kettle, mug and tea bag in order to make cups of tea in the morning/ evening, or a television remote which we would use to turn the tv on. We were thinking it would be quite creative to film the shots which we need and then edit them in slow motion to make it feel quite moving, so that the audience in some senses can feel the same way as the twin sisters do. This will help allow the audience to get a sense of their relationship. I also feel as though this style of setting and filming (in slow motion) could link well to the style of music which we are using because it is slow and not heavy.

Here are some screenshots to show our organisations:

PICTURES:
We have already taken a rookie trip to see and scout our locations and settings as seen below. We took photos to show the kind of shots we're looking at filming and the aesthetic we want to capture in this setting. Also, we didn't know what colours in the sky/around the house would give, and therefore, the look it'll give the music video but we think that the scenic shots will be to our advantage.
