Post 20 Pt.2: Wes Anderson Style Music Video

WES ANDERSON STYLE MUSIC VIDEO

The next task we were given was to create another music video. We had to plan, organise, film, and edit a Wes Anderson's style music video in under two hours. We got into groups that ended up as Megan, Daisy, Tazmin and I in one team. We did some research into how Wes Anderson usually directs his work..

Here is some of the research we used.. 

Just as with the tracking shot, Anderson’s deep-rooted love of symmetry in all of his shot compositions has taken shape over time. Traces of this trait can be seen in all of his early movies, of course, but cut to present, and his initial obsession has bloomed into full-blown mania.


The man simply cannot resist the draw of reciprocal arrangement of props and characters in front of his camera. This attribute pops up in Bottle Rocket and Rushmore, but check out everything from The Royal Tenenbaums onward, and it becomes more and more prevalent.

Post 33: PLANNING: Editing

EDITING Our editing style, we know already, we plan to be slow and not heavily edited in port-production with long takes that can really take in the story, to fit the more sombre tone of the song, rather than be heavily edited with lots of cuts that can come out as jumpy and fast. We also want to focus on the sisters, so the cameras will often be rolling for a longer time on the sisters and their movement and not just just on and off for certain shots that are pieced together later to make the story. Below is an example of one longer shot that we could use, instead of lots of little ones, when shooting in the car moving from one sister across to the other: NARRATIVE: Above is a video I found on YouTube roughly describing what narrative is. It helped me understand the meaning of narrative and how it is used.  LINEAR NARRATIVE  -  Linear narratives  present stories in a logical manner by telling what happens from one point in time to the next without using flashbacks

Post 6: Key Music Videos Timeline

POST 6: PRACTICE TASK - KEY MUSIC VIDEOS TIMELINE    This research is to discover the key turning points in music videos in the last century leading up until now. Before we started, the only inclination we had was that Michael Jackson's Thriller music video was important and was a major turning point with creating a storyline with the music video so it was interesting for all of us to see where it originally came from and who influenced the creation of music videos all of the world.
