Post 4: Practice Task Planning
POST FOUR: OUR PRACTICE TASK PLANNING
We have updated our task slightly due to the fact we have made some progress with our idea for our actual coursework; so we decided to do something that would be more beneficial to our end result. Therefore, we decided to recreate the first 30 seconds of a music video that has inspired our plans for our own music video, which is 'Sleep on the Floor' By the Lumineers as this would give us some idea of how to recreate the style we are going for and some initial practice of trying to capture those kind of shots.
All of our potential settings are based at our sixth form due to the practicality of being able to film in school time and also having all our group in the same place so it is easy for as all to be there and help each other. It also means that we can use our friends as cast as they will be there as well, making the whole construction of the video far easier.
Setting 1: CLC - This setting is the sixth form common room, so we thought it could be a good setting as there would be people roaming around in the background to make the scenes more realistic and also look like they clip we are copying, as there are people in some of the shots within that. However it could be difficult to be able to get a clear shot if there are lots of people always moving about in the background, therefore it may be hard to try and film without getting moved about. It also does not look very romantic compared to the film we are trying to recreate, so may not create the feel we wanted; even if it is a practical setting as we all have easy access to film there as we do not have to ask permission or anything.

Potential settings:All of our potential settings are based at our sixth form due to the practicality of being able to film in school time and also having all our group in the same place so it is easy for as all to be there and help each other. It also means that we can use our friends as cast as they will be there as well, making the whole construction of the video far easier.

Setting 2: Media Classroom - This would be a good location as we would have all the equipment ready and easy to access as it is would already be in the classroom. It also is quite a good space and we would be able to move around and film without much distribution, making the process easier. However it would be very difficult to try and recreate the feel we wanted in the background within in a classroom, and it would be hard to make it look more realistic as it would very obviously be filmed in class.
Setting 3 : The quad ( our chosen setting) - We thought this would be a good setting as it was outside and we would have a lot of room to film, and we wouldn't be anyone else's way, but there would still be people walking about outside making it more similar to the video we were trying to recreate.
Potential cast: Our cast has to consist of one make male and one female due to the fact they are the characters within the video we are trying to recreate. For our casting we went round our fellow sixth form students to try and find the people we thought would be best for helping us recreate this task. Below are the pictures of people who said they would do it and we chose our cast from these to the who we thought would be the best person.
Female cast:
To the top right, Katie. To the left, Catherine and to the bottom right, Daisy. For our female character we chose Daisy as she is in our group so would be able to film in one our lessons, making it the most practical person than the 3, and she also was not afraid of the camera or hesitant at all, meaning she would be more comfortable in front of the camera compared to the other people we asked, as they were not sure if they wanted to be filmed so may come across as less confident in the video.
Male Cast:
To the right, Alex. To the left, Sam and to the bottom, Noah. For our male character we chose Alex due to the fact that he is very tall so would be able to look good with Daisy, as we cast the female role first. He was also free in one of our lessons giving us a practical time to film and was also the most willing out of the people listed above, meaning he was more likely to take direction well and thus create the shots we wanted.
Potential costume/props: The clothing used in the video are realistic and in the first 30 seconds that we are replicating they are dressed smartly, therefore we decided to keep our characters in their 6th form uniform as this is smart as well and we would be more likely to get the same kind of feel in the video if we did this. There is not any props used in the part of the video that we are recreating therefore we did not have to include these within this practice task.
Potential characters: Due to the fact that we are replicating a video we did not have to come up with our own characters as they had been supplied to us in the video. Therefore we kept our focus on making sure we tried to create the same kind of romantic bond between the two characters that are in the Lumineers video, instead of making up our own.
Potential split between 'performance' and 'story':
As we are only doing the first 30 seconds of the video, we only have the beginnings of the story within this practice task. However if you watch the video in full the band is incorporated into the storyline which is how the video incorporates the performance element, which if we had done the entire video we would have tried to recreate. We like this concept as it included the band but does not distract from the storyline or change the feel of the video, thus why we are doing planning into how to include something similar in our own work. Below is a screenshot capturing how this was done in the ' sleep on the floor' video.
Storyboard: (To the right) We storyboarded the exact shots from the video that we would be replicating to give us a clear idea of what we would need to do. We did this by going through the video and watching each of the movements, shots and angles and how long each of them were on the screen for.
